A first here at Exchange Coffee, Cascara is the dried cherries of the coffee plant which when brewed produce a delightfully refreshing caffeinated beverage. Easily brewed in a cafetiere or teapot they produce an interesting myriad of flavours ranging from blackcurrants and cherries to rosehips and hibiscus. Traditionally the drink of the coffee pickers themselves cascara has become renowned world wide as an alternative to both tea and coffee and also boasts a wealth of anti oxidants. Research also suggests that it contains relatively low caffeine levels, just over a quarter of the caffeine content of brewed coffee. Cascara also benefits from a longer brewing time than coffee, about 5-6 minutes with water that is around 90°. We suggest using around 5g per cup, roughly equivalent to one scoop of cascara.
